Again we go head to head with two of the biggest names in hair care for our battle of the brands! We have lined up two matte hair styling products from two of the most popular UK hair styling brands to see which one is better. Today we will be testing the best selling TIGI bed head Matte Separation VS NEW Hairbond Super.

Note: the Hairbond Super Professional Hair Fibre is not actually launching until Christmas along with another release called the Hairbond Power Professional Hair Wax, but Hairbond kindly sent me some early prototypes in order to present feedback at their launch in December.

Packaging:

Glad to see red back amongst the Hairbond collection. Top drawer, premium quality, attention to detail. 5/5

Application:

This formulation has one major key ingredient, Keratin. This is a type of protein which actually makes your hair smoother and stronger and is a new addition ingredient to both new Hairbond 2020 products. I’ve never seen this before in a hair fibre before and it works great! 5/5

Finish:

Lovely matte finish. Soft and flexible.

Consistency:

Although it looks like concrete in the jar, it’s more of a smooth paste, breaks down very well. 5/5

Hold:

Strong 4/5 matte effect. 5/5

Overall:

5/5

What They Say

TBA

Lets see how the TIGI can compete with that!

Packaging:

Nothing to rave about. Cheap tin, perhaps expect from a budget brand not designed by a professional 1/5

Application:

As a Matte Separation product, my hopes were high. Frustratingly this gunky cream gives you more of a low shine finish. Application is sticky and you get some tug and pull. 2/5

Finish:

A bit sticky. Was expecting more clay-like properties from this product. As in, no shine and lots of texture. Unfortunately, the Matte Separation clumped together where I had applied the product and ironically, it was hard to separate. 2/5

Consistency:

Spreads into hand ok but then begins to get tacky. 2/5

Hold:

It holds ok. Get this wet and you’ll lose it all 3/5

Overall:

2/5. Disappointed.

What They Say

“Style hair with texture and definition with the Bed Head for Men Matte Separation Hair Wax. This strong hold hair wax adds hold, texture, separation and definition to styled hair. The hair wax has a natural matte finish and resists humidity for long-lasting hair styling. The Matte Separation Hair Wax is the most popular Bed Head for Men product globally.

Ideal for styling short to medium hair. Apply the hair wax to towel-dried or dry hair, then style and create extra detail with fingers. Top tip: the drier your hair, the more matte the finish and the wetter the hair, the softer the results.

Formulated with Beeswax for hair amazing texture and hold, Cera Carnauba, a medium-weight wax that gives a long-lasting workable hold and Glycerine that moisturises, conditions and nourishes the hair.

The hair wax is 85 g and comes with Fresh Green Aromatic fragrance.

Apply to damp or dry hair for texture and hold”

TIGI bed head Matte Separation VS Hairbond Super

Hairbond Super Professional Hair Fiber! Scoring full marks 5/5, it never looked like TIGI would take this one. Matte Separation VS NEW Hairbond Super was a great battle but Hairbond had it from the beginning.

I am SUPER impressed with this new hair fibre, it reminds me of the Hairbond Distorter Professional Hair Clay but a different texture and on steroids. I can see this working across multiple hair types and I can’t wait to see how the new Hairbond Power Wax compares.

On the other hand, I am disappointed in the results from the Matte Separation wax, I expected it to score much better.

Anyway thanks for tuning in, more product reviews coming soon
