Slick Gorilla Hair Styling Texturising Powder VS Hairbond Gripper Leave a comment

It’s finally time for another brand battle! Now we are going to be looking at the Slick Gorilla Hair Styling Texturising Powder VS Hairbond Gripper Professional Hair Pomade to decide which product is better!

We are going to put these products side by side and score them out of 5 across the main attributes we look for in quality hair styling products.

Who will be victorious? Will the Slick Gorilla team from Leeds claim the win or will it be the Hairbond squad from Lancaster?

Before we get started, it’s important to raise awareness that these products have their own agendas. They do not belong in the same hair styling product families. They both perform completely differently in different hair types but despite one being a matte hair powder and one being a pomade we want to establish which one is better overall.

What do these industry leading brands claim?

Whilst Slick Gorilla is a new hairstyling brand on the market, their success has grown from the growing trends in matte hairstyles.

Even though it is still early days for the Yorkshire company, the Slick Gorilla brand has started to evolve and diversify into hair clays and creams, something I intend to feature at a later date.

“A new and emerging brand from the streets of downtown Leeds is about to hit the pavements – well hair, to be honest! We introduce to you the one and only Slick Gorilla. A hair brand created with the urban jungle in mind. Our first product – one of many we’ll be launching – is a volumising hair powder to give your mane that stand out look. Slick Gorilla’s mantra is to create the best hair products for the discerning gentleman who wants to look great and survive in the urban jungle…When only Slick will do!

Hairbond United Kingdom on the other hand has been around for the last 12 years and counting. A UK hairstyling brand which similarly only started with just a select few products has gone on to dominate global demand now manufacturing a range of products suited to different hair types.

Unlike Slick Gorilla, Hairbond launched out of Lancashire when multi brand owner, entrepreneur Scott Michaels saw that Britain had to represent the best-made quality products.

Due to the amount of Premier League and International footballers who support the Hairbond brand, they have widely become known as the “Premier League Of Hair Styling”

Something inbetween a jelly and a gel. 5/5

What They Say

“With a mouth-watering cola cube fruity fragrance, this product might remind you of some of the thirst-quenching sweets you had as a kid. Depending on how much is used and how the hair is prepared, different levels of shine can be achieved to best suit the hairstyle. To use, simply start with a small amount in your palms and then apply to your hair and style however you desire. For a lower hold and high shine, give your hair a towel dry keeping some of the moisture in after rinsing, or for a higher hold and lower shine, you could blow-dry the hair first before applying the pomade. The Hairbond Gripper Pomade has a nice 4/5 hold factor, making it ideal for controlling and styling even the curliest, thickest or coarsest hair. It’s strong enough to allow you to work high hairstyles and it’s paraben-free, meaning high, healthy, styled hair!  You will find the Hairbond Gripper Pomade in any top barbers arsenal/toolbox as the pomade’s versatility is perfect for finishing off their freshest work giving their clients a well-groomed, smart appearance.”

Now then Slick Gorilla, how are you going to compete with that?!

Slick Gorilla Hair Styling Texturising Powder

slick gorilla hair styling powder vs hairbond united kingdom moulder

Packaging:

Annoyingly the Slick Gorilla shaker only comes half full which really grinds my gears. Despite that it’s well made and the white boxes stand out on the shelf. 3/5

Application:

Ended up with a quarter of the half full shaker all over my shoulders, what a waste. 2/5

Finish:

Eventually with it in the right place, i got some good lift, good volume. Although I only used small amounts, I got good results.

Consistency:

A hair powder. Smaller than salt but not as fine as flour. 5/5

Hold:

Reasonable on its own but would always recommend finishing off your powder styles with a high quality finishing product to seal in your style.

Overall:

4/5.

What They Say

“Put a small amount of powder on your palm or apply directly to dry hair. Mess it up and make sure the powder is distributed all over the styling area. Style your hair the way you want. Remember you can rework the powder later or simply add more to get the desired look”
